2017 sports day

A post shared by Aileen Is Motu (@aileenmotu) on

one of the reasons why we love this school
is the values they instill into the kids

for instance
the annual sports day

they made it clear that

it is
not
about competition

it is not
about who is the best

it is not
about who is the fastest

it is about
TRYING YOUR BEST

it is about
ENJOYING THE TIME WITH YOUR SCHOOL MATES

it is about
PARTICIPATION

at the end of the day,
there is no award, no medal, no champion, no nothing

everyone gets a flag for having participated.

all the kids were having fun,
giving their best,
didn't compare,
didn't complain...

they were given opportunities to participate in all the games and activities

totally opposite of the kind of sports day i had when i was at school.

all i could remember was that
each and every year,
it was always the same group of girls who were good at sports
who got to run, jump, throw
and got all the awards, medals.

girls like me,
good at nothing,
would just sit on the bench and chit chat the day away...

i really appreciate what the school and the teachers are teaching and showing the kids....

sports should be fun, should be inclusive
it shouldn't make anyone feel inferior

p.s.

to us, the best part was
parents got to participate too!

tug-of-war...
parents vs. kids

and of course,
the parents let the kids win!
