quiet

finishing this book... "quiet" by susan cain

i am a quite a visual person
the first thing that caught my eye when i was walking up and down the aisles of the book shop
was the cover of this book.

it was white...  even the title was white.

the next thing that caught my eye was the line at the bottom of the cover:
"the power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking"

with this line, i bought the book.

i find myself nodding my head as i read along...
there are lots of points that i couldn't agree more with...

"yet today we make room for a remarkably narrow range of personality styles.
we're told that to be great is to be bold,
to be happy is to be sociable...
which means that we've lost sight of who we really are."

"aggressive power beats you up:
soft power wins you over."

"real strength comes from substance."

"soft power is quiet persistence."

this book talks about how introverts can quietly sustain and succeed in a world
that seems to value character over personality.

"without introverts, the world would be devoid of:
the theory of gravity
the theory of relativity
W.B. Yeats's 'The Second Coming'
Chopin's nocturnes
Proust's 'In Search of Lost Time'
Peter Pan
Orwell's '1984' and 'Animal Farm'
The Cat in the Hat
Charlie Brown
'Schindler's List,' 'E.T.,' and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'
Google
Harry Potter"
