our mid-autumn festival

lunch at porpor's house today.

usually on sundays, we would go out for lunch (most of the time is *yum cha, dim sum*),
but today, instead of going to porpor's favorite chinese restaurant, we stayed in for a vegetarian meal as porpor could only have vegetarian meal (her ritual on every 1st & 15th of the chinese calendar, and today is seen as the *major* 15th of the year).

we originally planned to go out to the vegetarian restaurant but it would mean too much walking for porpor (especially that restaurant has a lot of stairs to climb), so we ordered take-away instead.  earlier on this week, we got the menu from the restaurant, sent it via email to mom for her to pick the dishes, mom called back and i faxed the order to the restaurant....  today, somotu & i went to pick up the food (we looked a bit funny... cos all the food was placed in a large cardboard box....).

then we headed off to porpor's house...  shortly, dad & mom, my brother & ah king arrived.
no lanterns, but a paper rabbit...

porpor...  listening to what somotu has to say...

porpor looking at the polaroid i took...
she is very satisfied with the picture and wanted to mail it to our relative in shanghai...
i am happy that she likes the picture very much....

then during lunch, our chit-chat about mooncakes:

dad: have i told you that when i was small, i used to save money throughout the year to buy mooncakes?  there used to be 月餅會 (mooncakes clubs).  they offered monthly installments on boxes of mooncakes.  each month, i would pay four dollars and then after twelve months, i could get boxes of mooncakes for fourty-eight dollars.
us: what did you do with all the mooncakes???
dad: i ate they all by myself!!!!
us: huh?????  very scary!!!
mom: you didn't share with your mother?
dad: no, she knew i liked them so much that she wouldn't have any so i could have them all.  arr, maybe that's why my cholesterol level is high now!
mom: and no wonder your kids also love mooncakes so much... it's in their genes... hahaha...

yes, i used to be really crazy about mooncakes...  i remember having around three boxes of mooncakes during one mid-autumn festival many years ago... scary....
